Hilton Head: Heart and Soul

Posted by Bill True on Monday, June 6th, 2016 at 9:57am.

When I was growing up, my family vacationed at the beach.  The summer vacation was the “real” vacation and the winter vacation to the mountains was, well, more of a getaway, even though the duration of each (always a week) was the same.  There is a certain magic in the beach that stays forever close to your heart.  Many of life’s memories which we hold so dear were made at the beach during that hiatus of being we call vacation---perhaps because the days were longer during the summer, granting us more time to relax and ponder as time passed with the ebb and flow of the tides.  It is also possible that the daily grind was intentionally set aside by the adults in favor of allowing the children to experience that spiritual drifting and sea-washed optimism that only the beach can deliver. Either way, we all returned home refreshed (if not slightly sunburned) with a skip in our step and a renewed inner strength.

It is those memories that can be summoned on a whim with vivid clarity and emotion, whether by a song on the radio, a walk in solitude or a sunset on a summer’s eve. Those heart and soul beach memories which we cherish and hold so dear are what we wish for our children to make for themselves.

Pat Conroy so eloquently wrote, “A family in the South helps define itself by what beach it chooses to summer at during those three-month breaks when the children are home from school.  In South Carolina, you can almost do a social chart of a family’s place in the great order of things by simply listing its preferred beach.” In plain Southern-speak: where you beach says everything about you.

Hilton Head Island---those three little words---are a powerful driving force and they stay in your heart and soul forever. If you could make a vacation last a lifetime, would you? I can help you find just the place you’ve been searching for.  Call me today at 843-384-9088 or visit BillTrue.com.
