Sea Pines Real Estate and Island Golf – A Fine Pairing

Posted by Bill True on Wednesday, April 8th, 2015 at 5:43pm.

Hilton Head Island was around long before there was golf—we have a long, proud history—but it was the golf that put Hilton Head on the map.  To be sure, in 1969 when the first tournament was played, the sunsets over Calibogue Sound captivated the crowds just as they do today and the ocean’s tides rolled in just as they had since the dawn of time; yet a transformation had been put in place that would bring national fame to Sea Pines and launch the Island on an upward trajectory that is still advancing five decades after the initial round.

Each Spring, the Island eagerly anticipates the arrival of the RBC Heritage.  The hustle and bustle of set-up as well as grounds maintenance and beautification within the Resort are all welcome signs.  Residents and second-home owners along the course open their windows and doors and set up camp on their decks, offering warm greetings and cool beverages to friends old and new.

Real estate in Sea Pines is not confined to just Harbour Town, though.  The famed resort is over 5,000 acres with over five miles of pristine Atlantic Ocean beach.  Homes, villas and lots dot the beach as well as the deepwater creeks, lagoons and Calibogue Sound.  Price points for property in Sea Pines are healthy but are substantiated by year-over-year growth, major development upgrades by the Resort, a restricted building code and the overall uniqueness of the area.

With a purse of $5.9, the RBC Heritage presented by Boeing and played every year on the Harbour Town Golf Links in Sea Pines Resort is one of the most beloved PGA tournaments.  The course, which frequently appears on golf’s “Best Lists” was designed by Pete Dye with assistance from Arnold Palmer and is only one of five tournaments given “invitational” status by the PGA. The course layout presents challenges to even the best golfer with its tree-lined fairways and tight greens; yet it is those very challenges that make the tournament so great to watch.  Following the Masters every year, the PGA Heritage is a favorite destination for pros and their families as Sea Pines offers the best of all worlds with the golf, the beach, family activities such as biking, hiking through nature preserves, horseback riding, Harbour Town’s yacht basin, al fresco dining, outdoor live concerts and a playground for the kids.  The tournament is as much about rekindling relationships and seeing old friends as it is about playing great golf.  It has a reduced field of 132 players, as opposed to full-field tournaments which lend play to 156 players.  With an attendance of over 100,000 spectators, the RBC Heritage pumps over $96 million into the South Carolina economy and has distributed over $28 million since 1987 to those in need in South Carolina and Georgia.

Come see what it’s all about.  You’ll want to call it home!
