 Immediately North of Sea Pines, an original and popular “off plantation” beach community on Hilton Head, is Forest Beach, the area spanning between Sea Pines and Shipyard. The area is not gated—and the residents like it that way. Homes and villas located in this area have access to 12 miles of some of the islands most beautiful beaches.
Forest Beach is divided by the Coligny Plaza, Hilton Head’s shopping and eating mecca. Coligny Plaza is said to be the most visited spot on all Hilton Head Island and has a complex of more than 100 shops, restaurants, theaters and entertainment. On either side of Coligny is North Forest Beach and South Forest Beach.
South Forest Beach has Hilton Head Island’s largest concentration of ocean-oriented properties. Hotel, motel and luxury villa accommodations are available year-round. Popular with visitors, they include: Shorewood, Ocean One, Sea Side, Forest Beach Villas, Tanglewood, Courtside, Surf Curt, A Place at the Beach and Hilton Head Beach Villas.
North Forest Beach is primarily single-family homes, though it does contain a number of villas. Nesting along the shore of North Forest Beach, before you reach the residential section, are: The Sea Crest, Breakers and North Sore Place. One unique aspect of North Forest Beach is that the streets are named for birds and run alphabetically from A – S perpendicular to North Forest Beach Drive, the main artery in North Forest Beach. Dune Lane, which runs from Avocet Street to Sandpiper, is the only oceanfront street which runs parallel to the beach. Both North and South Forest Beach have hard sand, wonderful for bicycling, running, sunning, swimming and playing. Because the tide change runs to seven feet, the beach is very wide and open.
The Forest Beach neighborhood includes two famous tennis facilities, the Van der Meer Center and the Players athletic club and fitness center. Also close at hand are a variety of water sports, miniature golf and superb nightly family entertainment.
