When travelling, I am often asked, “So, where is home?” My response: “Hilton Head Island!” Three words, always with an exclamation. It’s been over 25 years, yet I still am in awe at what a beautiful island Hilton Head really is. But, as the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

My family and I just returned from the Florida Keys—we vacation on Islamorada nearly every year—my son and I are avid fishermen and, well, it is the sports fishing capital of the world. We have a blast. To be fair, parts of south Florida are truly beautiful; parts are… truly not. Hoards of people (everywhere), the lines (everywhere), the rooftops for miles and miles, the horrendous traffic…it’s everything Hilton Head is not. It’s OK to vacation there, but I wouldn’t want to stay there. I couldn’t wait to get home!
