HARBOURFEST AT SHELTER COVE: A Palmetto Dunes Hilton Head Island Family Tradition

Posted by Bill True on Monday, June 23rd, 2014 at 5:31pm.

Summer is in full swing on Hilton Head. From sunrise to sunset, the beaches are bustling with families, children and young adults on bicycles, building sandcastles, chasing waves, jogging and all-out playing. But what to do after a day at the beach? Why, light up the night, of course!
HarbourFest at Shelter Cove is a tradition many families have come to know and love. HarbourFest festivities include weekly fireworks each Tuesday evening. This year’s fireworks shows run from mid-June to mid-August—June 18th, June 2th5, each Tuesday in July (with July 4th being the REALLY BIG SHOW), and August 6th and 13th. Weather-permitting, these family-friendly shows commence at dusk at Shelter Cove Harbour (right across from the Palmetto Dunes entrance). Gather round the Harbour to view the show or take a guided tour and boat cruise and enjoy the fireworks from the water. These shows, as well as admission and parking, are free and open to the public.

In addition to the fireworks displays every Tuesday night, other HarbourFest activities include Monday through Thursday performances at 6:30 and 8:00 by Shannon Tanner in his beanie propeller hat. Celebrating his 25th year at the Harbour with his fan favorite songs such as “My Hair Had a Party Last Night,” Tanner’s multigenerational show is lively and spirited. It is shows and times such as these from which the very best vacation memories are made.

Other family-friendly activities include face painting, bouncy houses, arts & crafts, practice putting, interactive games, street performers, island-themed celebration with food and drinks—and much more.
Conveniently located mid-island, Shelter Cove Harbour offers waterfront dining (casual and formal), unique shopping and exquisite views of Broad Creek. Shelter Cove Harbour is directly across from Palmetto Dunes Resort. With three miles of pristine Atlantic Ocean beach, a sheltered marina, three world-class golf courses, an award-winning tennis center, beautiful homes and gracious villas, Palmetto Dunes is an island favorite!
