Can You Take a Break and Come to Hilton Head?

Posted by Bill True on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015 at 4:55pm.

I’ve lived on Hilton Head Island just under 30 years.  Fresh out of graduate school (Texas) and armed with an MBA, I was living the corporate dream.  Several months into it, I received a call from my uncle who kindly extended an invitation to visit the island—and maybe do a little fishing.  It was love at first sight. The beaches were so beautiful, the swaying of the live oaks and the whispers of the palms lulled me into submission.  And the fishing was great! The people were friendly, and the island and environs were more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.  Hilton Head was calling and I had to answer.

Upon returning to corporate life, I tendered my resignation and was back on the island as quickly as humanly possible.  Hilton Head was a lot smaller back then—literally—as much of the island was still undeveloped. Growth was somewhat tempered and it was still considered, for the most part, a luxury resort island for wealthy retirees. There were fewer year-round businesses (and year-round residents) than now, and corporate positions were non-existent.  No matter.  I wanted the opposite of corporate.  I wanted to be passionate about what I was doing—so I decided to get into real estate.  I’ve never regretted it and I’ve never looked back.

Nearly three decades later, I can still say real estate is my passion. For primary or investment; oceanfront, deepwater with private dock or a view of the links, I’ve sold it—I’ve bought it—and I’ve lived it. Hilton Head has matured (for the better) with a robust year-round population comprised of every demographic.  Life is good on Hilton Head.  Life on an island also revolves around the tides; it doesn’t take long to acclimate because the ocean is in our soul.  It’s what the soul craves.

Uncle Benny is gone now, but every morning when I wake up, see that beautiful water and take a breath of fresh (salt) air, I think back to that phone call, “Hey! Can you take a break and come to Hilton Head for a visit?” (Or maybe a lifetime).

Call me on my cell at 843.384.9088 or start your search for your new island property on BillTrue.com. From oceanfront homes and condos in Sea Pines and Palmetto Dunes to luxury living in Wexford Plantation, Long Cove Club or Forest Beach.  One call (or click) could change your life.
