BEACH TREASURES – UNUSUAL AND UNLIKELY FINDS

Posted by Bill True on Wednesday, October 15th, 2014 at 4:41pm.

It’s hard to explain…but I’ll know it when I see it. Let’s keep looking.”
I get that a lot. Having been in the real estate business on Hilton Head Island for nearly 30 years, that is an oft-used phrase by my clients. It is not unusual for a client to have firm requirements prior to embarking on a real estate search—we all have our personal likes and dislikes, preferences and visions of what we want in a home or villa—but resort property is unique. It’s as much about the destination as the property itself.

By virtue of the fact that you are even looking to purchase real estate here, you have already been sold on the destination. Yes, Hilton Head is a destination…an objective, a goal, a target of desire. You didn’t just “end up” on this island much as one might “end up” lost on a country road. There is only one road leading to Hilton Head and it is clearly marked. You made a mindful and intentional effort to get here! And we’re glad you did.
I tell my clients, “Take your time. We’ll find just the right one.” And we do. And, very often, it is not at all what they set out to find. Yes, of course, looks matter (and isn’t beauty in the eye of the beholder?). Price matters, too (how much did you say?). But in the end, it is about living the dream. Location, location, location, too! For instance, within the resorts of Sea Pine and Palmetto Dunes, there are hundreds of homes and villas, some with spectacular views of the ocean, others overlooking deep water with private docks, while yet others have sprawling views of rolling fairways and manicured greens, lagoons, salt marshes or heavily wooded areas. Each home is different, custom-designed and constructed, and each villa, while perhaps in the same complex, offers a one-of-a-kind view. Each one is a treasure waiting to be discovered.
So, when the idea first popped into your head you decided either consciously (“Honey, let’s move to Hilton Head—remember how much fun we have when we’re on vacation there?”) or unconsciously (“One day I am leaving this place and going to live where it’s sunny and warm, where it’s safe and friendly, where I can play golf and tennis, and walk on the beach—maybe I’ll look into options on Hilton Head). Either way, here you are and the time is now.
Hilton Head Island is a great place to call home—even if it’s a second home or a vacation home. It’s oceans away, yet still close enough to everywhere.
